Palatine Children's Chorus Artistic Director

 

Mr. Luis Solis received his Bachelor’s degree in music education from Elmhurst University in 2018. While attending Elmhurst University, he served as the “Blue” Vocal Jazz Ensemble president while also participating in the Symphonic Band, Saxophone Quartet, Concert Choir, and acclaimed “Late Night Blues” Vocal Jazz Ensemble.

 

At Elmhurst University, he had the opportunity to study under Ross Kellan, Judith Grimes, Doug Beach, Roger Birkeland, Susan Moninger, Donna Tallman, Gayle Bisesi, and Jen Mather. He has also had the opportunity to study piano with Eunjin Lee at DePaul University. Throughout his career he has had the opportunity to perform and work alongside artists such as Andrea Bocelli, Bobby McFerrin, Eric Whitacre, Josephine Lee, Marin Alsop, Kerry Marsh, Julia Dollison, Kim Nazarian, and Janis Siegel. One of his favorite performances includes having the opportunity to perform Leonard Bernstein’s Mass at Ravinia Festival. 

 

Mr. Solis serves as the director of bands in the Schiller Park school district. In Schiller Park, Mr. Solis works with a wide range of students spanning 5th through 8th grade. He directs the Beginning Band, Concert Band, Jazz Band, Percussion Ensemble, and Symphonic Band. One of the highlights teaching at SD81 has been Leyden High School's special concert event at the Chicago Symphony Orchestra Hall in June in collaboration with the partner schools. This concert earned the music department a 2023 Advocacy in Action National Community Involvement Award. This award honors achievements in music education and is presented by Music for All. In addition to being the band director, Mr. Solis is the main sound musical technician for both Washington Elementary School and Lincoln Middle School. Mr. Solis is excited to work with the Palatine’s Children’s Chorus and meet members of the Palatine community!
